Neve Daniel
Overview
Neve Daniel is located about 18 kilometers (11 miles) southwest of Jerusalem. It is situated atop one of the highest points in the area, and offers views as far as Tel Aviv to the west and the mountains of Jordan to the east. The settlement is under the administration of the Gush Etzion Regional Council. The population has grown rapidly, and includes Olim from a variety of countries, including a significant percentage of English speakers. The majority of residents are Orthodox, and English speakers generally show a high level of interest in integrating with greater Israeli society.
Housing
Construction is mostly two-family and one-family attached and single homes, with some apartments.
Housing prices vary widely, based on location, features, and condition, but recent searches yielded these prices for apartment rentals and purchases:
Type | Size (Sq. Meters) | Rent | Purchase |
2 Bedroom | 70m2-110m2 | ₪3,700-₪5,300 | ₪960,000-₪1,200,000 |
4 Bedroom | 90m2-140m2 | ₪5,100-₪6,850 | ₪1,500,000-₪2,200,000 |
Transportation
Public transportation is available between Neve Daniel and Jerusalem, and other points. However, the most convenient bus lines are those that don’t actually enter the Yishuv. Local taxi services exist, but private cars are considered the most practical way to live in the area.
Employment
Few local businesses offer employment opportunities, most residents work in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv. Workers generally commute with their own cars, either individually or in carpools.
Education
Maon and Gan programs in Neve Daniel meet the needs of the youngest residents, while school-age children are served by the Gush Etzion region’s schools, which include secular and religious schools, including Ashkenazi and Sefaradi schools, with co-ed or separate classes for boys and girls. Education standards are high, and the variety of options meets the needs of most residents without long commutes. After school activities are hosted in Neve Daniel and nearby locations.
Services for Olim
Government offices and Ulpan programs serve the region, but are not located within the Yishuv. The high percentage of Olim and English speakers can ease the transition, and community events are inclusive. Jerusalem has the largest range of Ulpan options and access to all government offices.
Community/Religious Life
Neve Daniel has religious leadership provided by a popular Rav. A large main synagogue and satellite Minyanim are available in Ashkenazi, Chabad, and Sefardi traditions. Many Torah classes are given, including some in English.
Amenities & Attractions
Some local shopping and medical services are available on the Yishuv. More is available in nearby Efrat (about 5iminutes drive) and the Talpiyot neighborhood of Jerusalem, about 15 minutes away.
